Disqualification of MGP MLAs: Justice Sonak recuses from hearing

PANJIM: Justice M S Sonak of the Division Bench of High Court of Bombay at Goa has recused from hearing a petition challenging dismissal of disqualification petition against Deputy Chief Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar and PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar.

“Not before me,” Justice Sonak said when the petition filed by MGP leader Ramkrishna Dhavalikar came up for hearing, on Monday. The matter has been now posted before Special Bench for hearing. Dhavalikar had sought from the High Court to set aside and quash the order of Goa Assembly Speaker Rajesh Patnekar and to disqualify two former party MLAs. The petitioner had also urged the court to take up his writ petition and adjudicate it with utmost urgency since the term of the current Assembly ends in March next year. Another writ petition filed by GPCC President Girish Chodankar seeking the disqualification of 10 former party MLAs will be heard before HC Special Bench on July 22.
