MARGAO: A resident of Madel has filed a disqualification plea against Margao Municipal Councillor Gonzaco Rebello representing Ward No 8 of the civic body.
In his petition filed before the Margao Municipal Chief Officer, the petitioner Savio Dias has said that Gonzaco is liable for disqualification for being allegedly involved in illegal construction and illegal business by taking advantage of his position as a city father.
Gonzaco has refuted the allegations, terming them as baseless, saying that neither was he involved in any illegal construction nor illegal business.
Dias, in his petition, has pointed out that the councillor is running a family business of bar and restaurant at Mungul in two shops of
a building on the Margao-Colva road after the railway over bridge. He further maintained that the structure is in road widening area and the activity in the structure continues till date due to the
patronage of the civic body. “The structure causes traffic congestion and parking problems in the locality,” he
alleged.
