PANJIM: Shiv Sena on Saturday demanded that the State government’s Investment Promotion Board (IPB) be dissolved immediately as it has turned into a ‘means to illegally convert disputed land’.
Addressing media persons, Shiv Sena chief Sudip Tamankar said, “In the name of industrial development, those lands which are caught in disputes are converted.”
Tamankar pointed out that while the Regional Plan 2021 has been kept in abeyance, areas marked in the land plan are being illegally converted overriding the Town and Country Planning norms.
“Since Regional Plan is on hold, common people are being refused permission to convert their land but on the other hand huge chunks of lands are allotted to industrial players by IPB,” he stated.
Shiv Sena also questioned the government’s wisdom in permitting new industrial units in the State without studying the water and power requirement and their availability. “There are two and half thousand applications for new electricity and water connections pending before the government. When such a huge backlog is awaiting permission, how can new industries find power and water?” he questioned.
