What the Congress failed to complete during its long tenure, the BJP finished in one stroke, when it came to power for the first time in Goa in 2000. The District Hospital Mapusa was commissioned for public use much to the relief of the common man. Sadly, almost 14 years down the line the reality now is coming to light.
The shoddy, poor quality work of the contractor is exposed. Plaster has begun to peel off, rain water drips through the cracks, maintenance of the structure calls of attention, cleanliness and hygiene in many places is lacking, paan spit stains are seen at unusual places which should have been protected by the concerned authority, not sparing, of course, convenient corners for paan and tobacco chewers to spit.
There is only one operation theatre and doctors have to wait patiently for their turn to come. They work under strain, at times they have to face the fury of the impatient public. As one doctor put it, “It’s past 2.45 pm and we are still here,” further adding, “ask for more doctors to help you”. Thank you Doctor, for your concern to help the aam aadmi! The hospital could become the best in the State with super facilities and only if a doctor who knows the in and out of the medical profession is the Health Minister he would understand its need and urgency. Last but not the least, a good functional system is the need of the hour.
