MARGAO: Gram sabha members of Cavelossim and Carmona panchayats on Sunday once again opposed the diversion of the Mhadei River and claimed that it will prove disastrous to the State’s ecology and environment.
The Cavelossim panchayat also resolved to conduct a survey of all the establishments; registered and non-registered within the next three months.
There was lengthy debate on tax collection as the panchayat took a decision and warned the establishments who were not paying tax or are not registered to clear the dues within three months or face action. It was resolved to oppose approval of the DPR of the Kalasa-Bandura dam project submitted by Karnataka that entails the diversion of Mhadei River. Gram sabha members demanded withdrawal of the DPR approved by teh CWC.
It was also decided to take up construction of breakwater at the mouth of River Sal on urgent basis as there was massive erosion lately. Dixon Vaz, Sarpanch also proposed to clean the wells in the village under clean water program and also not to allow any borewells in the village.
“We have proposed the budget 2023 to 2024 in which most of the allotment was increased, especially disaster management, Garbage and waste and pre-monsoon works.We will focus on roadside parking by tourists which creates inconvenience to the public,” said the Sarpanch.
