Divert Zuari land for affordable homes: Vas

Revenue Minister Atanasio Babush Monserrate said that the Government has sought a legal opinion based on which it will make a decision.

PORVORIM: Cortalim Legislator Antonio Vas on Friday raised the issue of underutilisation of the vast land at Sancoale, which earlier was granted to a private company.

He urged the Goa Legislative Assembly to instead divert the land for building affordable houses for Goans.

In a Private Member’s resolution tabled on the concluding day of the two weeks Assembly session, he stated “This House strongly recommends the Government to enact a legislation to vest in itself the excess and unutilised land admeasuring about 17 lakh sq mts at Sancoale village in Mormugao Taluka granted to then Birla Gwalior Pvt. Ltd. by the Sancoale Communidade for setting up of fertilizer plant and to utilise it for much-needed housing needs of economically weaker sections in Cortalim Constituency and other purposes.”
