BELGAUM: A large number of Konkani speaking Catholics of Goan origin, who have settled at Unchenatti, Peeranwadi and Macche areas here, on Sunday observed annual feast of Divine Mercy Church at Unchenatti along the Belgaum-Goa road via Chorla.
Goan Jesuit Fr Kelvin Monteiro, who was recently ordained priest, was the main celebrant of the Eucharistic celebration that was held in Konkani.
A large number of pilgrims from different parts of Belgaum, north Karnataka and Maharashtra were present for the feast.
Fr Philip Kutty, Fr Lawrence Mascarenhas and Parish Priest Fr Peter D’souza were the concelebrants.
In his homily, Fr Mascarenhas emphasised on the values of Christianity.
Reminding the people of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Fr Mascarenhas said sentence of crucifixion was supposed to be the most humiliating and crude form of punishment those days, however, Jesus Christ who redeemed the whole world from sin certainly did not deserve such sentence.
“He died on the Cross so that he could salvage us from sins,” he said.
Priests and nuns from Belgaum, Goa and other neighbouring areas also took part in the celebration of the annual feast.
Parish Priest Fr Peter D’Souza, a priest of Goan origin, and members of the parish council had made elaborate arrangements for the celebration of the feast.
