MARGAO: “Mercy is the speciality of God. The same mercy of God was shown by Jesus to us. So, we need to experience the mercy of God and share it to the others,” said Vicar General Fr Jose Remedios Fernandes.
Fernandes was delivering a homily at the Divine Mercy Sunday Eucharistic celebration held at the Carmelite Monastery, Margao.
“Jesus teaches us how to be merciful by his works of mercy,” he said and called upon the faithful to do the corporal and spiritual works of mercy.
He appealed the devotees to become instruments of peace, messenger of forgiveness and have openness to the Holy Spirit. Thus live the call to holiness.
Fr Noel D’Cunha OCD animated the liturgy. Br Malvino Alfonso was the liturgical commentator. Participation of the representatives of the Divine Mercy Parish/Chapel groups added more meaning to the liturgy. Banners depicting 14 works of Mercy were presented to the Group representatives as a token of love and appreciation.
Fr Archibald Gonsalves OCD, Superior of the Carmelite Monastery, Margao proposed a vote of thanks. Benefactors of the Carmelite Monastery were felicitated.
Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrão was asked and gave permission to the Carmelites in Goa to promote Divine Mercy Devotion in the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman. Accordingly, a team of Carmelites Friars went to the parishes on request and explained the true meaning of the devotion and covering other themes relation to this devotion and formed112 Divine Mercy Parish/ Chapel groups.
