MARGAO: Diwali greetings banners and display advertisements of various persons have fetched over Rs 30,000 to the Margao Municipal Council.

The outgoing council during its tenure had increased the fees for the display of temporary advertisements, (banners/hoardings) from Rs 25 to Rs 500. However, it was noticed that the very councillors, who have increased the fees as a step to build up the council revenue, thought themselves immune to their own law.

“It had become a trend for them to display banners/hoardings during the festivals, but without paying any fees. On the November 9, the Margao Shadow Council filed a complaint against the habitual defaulters and have demanded recovery of the dues of the past four festivals,” reminded Savio Coutinho.

“We are indeed happy to be informed that the council has earned over Rs 30,000 this time from the temporary advertisements displayed by the councillors/politicians,” the SCM informed.
