DKA spreading awareness of Konkani in Roman script

PANJIM: Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) has started a village-level Konkani reading competition and Konkani awareness programme all over Goa. Till date 13 such competitions and awareness programmes have been held in different parts of Goa.

PANJIM: Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) has started a village-level Konkani reading competition and Konkani awareness programme all over Goa. Till date 13 such competitions and awareness programmes have been held in different parts of Goa. Dalgado Konknni Akademi is spreading awareness among people that Konkani in Roman script should be included in the Official Language Act.  
In this regards, DKA had meetings with MLA’s from ruling party, opposition parties and even independents,  which resulted in bringing the Private Member Amendment Bill to include Konkani in Roman script in the Official Language Act by Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva.  Vishnu Surya Wagh, St Andre MLA also supported the move. This indicates, how serious DKA is, for inclusion of Konkani in Roman script in the Official Language Act.
The village-level Konkani Reading Competitions and Awareness programmes started since August 11 at Agonda, Canacona and continued in Ugem-Sanguem, Ambaulim-Quepem, Curchorem, Old-Goa, Duler-Mhapusa, Fatorda, Seraulim, Cuncolim,  Pomburpa, Mandur, Ponda and Colva. Mostly priests from these villages took active part in educating the people to use and preserve Konkani in Roman script.
Of late, on October 7, one such competition and awareness programme was held in Our Lady of Amparo Church Hall where more than 100 people attended. Young and the old took part in the reading competition.  
On October 9, DKA had organised two more competitions along with awareness programmes.  In the morning it was held at Our Lady of St Annes’ Church Hall, Ponda in the presence of Fr Tony, parish priest. 
In the evening, the competition and awareness programme was held at Colva.  The Parish Priest of Our Lady of Merces Church, Colva, while supporting the cause of Konkani, explained the importance of Konkani in Roman script for villagers during Mass service.  The programme was held at Lions Club of Colva Hall, Colva in association with Lions Club and JCI, Colva.
