MARGAO, APRIL 15
Bowing to the demands of the residents of Quepem, the South Goa district Magistrate, G P Naik has partially modified his order in respect of the timings of plying of mining trucks in the taluka.
Naik today issued directions that the mining trucks would now ply between 6 am to 4.30 pm till May 31 instead of 6 am to 6 pm.
The changes in the timings came after the district Magistrate had meetings with the residents of Quepem in the morning and another round of meeting with a delegation of mine owners in the Collectorate this evening.
“BY the modified order, no mining truck will be allowed on the roads after 4.30 pm.  Clear instructions have been issued to the authorities to implement the order in both letter and spirit”, Naik said.
The district Magistrate had restricted the movement of mining trucks in the Quepem and Sanguem talukas with effect from Monday by setting up check posts in a bid to reduce the volume of mining traffic by nearly 50 per cent.
