MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council has decided to act tough on the implementation of bio-metric finger-scan readers for its employees, with Chief Officer Deepali Naik saying that the civic body would withdraw the muster rolls from Friday.
The CO’s decision comes after she received directions from the Director of Municipal Administration, Elvis Gomes, on Wednesday to implement the bio-metric finger-scan readers and report compliance.
The CO called on the DMA this morning following which the latter faxed a copy of from the government to the civic body this evening, which speaks of implementing bio-metric finger-scan readers for the employees.
Deepali told Herald that the DMA has directed her to implement the bio-metric readers and file compliance report. “From Friday, we will make it compulsory for the employees to record their attendance on the bio-metric scan readers since the muster rolls would be withdrawn from that day,” she said.
The CO’S decision is likely to bring the employees and the Municipal administration face to face since the latter under the banner of Goa Municipal Employees Association had threatened to resort to a tool-down or pen-down strike if the civic body dared to withdraw the muster rolls.
DMA Elvis Gomes told Herald that he had faxed a copy of a government circular clearly stating that bio-metric finger readers should be used for recording the attendance of the employees. It’s now for the civic body to take a call on the matter since it falls within its jurisdiction, he added.
