MARGAO: In a new twist to the musical chair game in the Margao Municipal Council, the Director of Municipal Administration Elvis Gomes has summoned Councillors Dayanand Deulkar and Bindiya Naik to appear in his office on Wednesday after a letter purportedly signed by them withdrawing their signatures from the no trust motion was entered in the DMA office on Tuesday morning.
In another development, soon after submitting the letter to the DMA’s office, the Councillors headed by former Chairperson Arthur D’Silva, besides BJP leader Sharmad Raiturcar called on Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in Panjim. The meeting with the chief minister assumes significance given that the no confidence motion has been blessed and supported by Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai.
The DMA’s decision to call both Deulkar and Bindiya to his office comes after a group of Councillors owing allegiance to the Chairperson Gonzaco Rebello submitted a letter in his office stating that both Deulkar and Bindiya has withdraw their signatures from the no confidence motion.
DMA Elvis Gomes told Herald that he has asked the two Councillors to appear in his office in order to verify whether they have signed the withdrawal letter or not.
‘The letter signed by the duo was not submitted by the two Councillors but by a group of Councillors. They have been called to verify whether they have signed the letter or not”, Gomes said.
It’s only after the verification is completed the DMA will take a call whether and when to convene a meeting of the Council to discuss the no confidence motion against Chairperson Gonzaco Rebello and Vice Chairperson Dadi Mayenkar.
