DMA to decide on no-trust motion against PMC vice chairperson

PONDA: In yet another game of musical chairs at the Ponda Municipal Council, the no-confidence motion against vice- chairperson Virendra Dhavlikar was kept  pending as the presiding officer said the decision would be taken by the Director of Municipal Administration (DMA) during a meeting held on Monday.

Only seven of the eight councillors who had moved the motion against Dhavlikar were present and voted in favour of the motion.

Sources said the DMA will take a decision today (Oct 12).

The special meeting was convened on Monday in PMC hall to discuss the motion against vice chairperson.

PMC Chairperson Shantaram Colvekar, who was the presiding officer was assited by Chief Officer Sagar Gavade.

Colvekar said the DMA would decide whether the decision against the vice-chairperson was passed or fizzled out.

“Though the motion was passed by 7-0 margin will request the DMA to take further decision on the matter,” said the PMC chairperson.

It may be recalled that this is the second time a high drama was witnessed in the PMC hall on no confidence motion.

Last week seven councillors had moved a no-confidence motion against the Chairperson Shantaram Colvekar, but they failed to attend the special meeting which fizzled out.

In the 15-member council the BJP is reportedly eyeing to grab the chairperson and vice chairperson’s posts which have been held by the opposition councillors by moving the no-confidence motion.
