As elections are approaching, do the ten defector MLAs of the BJP, who betrayed their voters and left the Congress get any sleep?
People are asking this because they are noticing some tensions in them with about six months or less left for the elections. Normally those who have won the elections, with the support of the people are always ready to meet their voters and others in the constituency throughout their term. But here, sitting MLAs, instead of meeting people prefer to stay away.
Now they are MLAs of a party their voters did not vote for because of which many are avoiding those who voted for them. People tell us that.
MLAs in hiding
One hears that many of them are avoiding going to Church for mass on Sundays, where they will meet people. One would like to believe it is only because of health-related precautions.
They are also perhaps relieved that due to COVID restrictions, they do not have to commit to social and cultural events and occasions like weddings. Most of them are praying that they can spend the last few months of their term quietly without getting noticed too much. But when they have betrayed and not delivered, people will be on the lookout for them, demanding accountability.
When people who have won elections say that they have defected for “development”, they have actually defected for destruction
These MLAs have clearly let the people down. Whenever you let people down, it comes back to haunt you. And that is exactly what these MLAs are facing.
So what is their future? Some of their well-wishers suggest that they drive to another political parking lot
Their people have some interesting suggestions for them. There will be ‘national’ parties, who are not in the picture now but may soon come as political parking lots for these MLA and others who do not get tickets from their own parties. They can go and park themselves in these political parking lots and drive their elections from there by contesting on the tickets of the parking lot parties. Some may even win some seats, who knows? And then after taking the people for a ride yet again, they can go back to supporting whoever is likely to come to power.
One more thing. All these MLAs should pray that God is not looking at them.
So, nothing really will change from now to then, as if elections have not taken place at all
It is sad perhaps that it has come to this. And it is even sadder that parking lot politics is not imaginary and may well be tried out to try and hoodwink the people yet again. That is because elections for these people are not meant for bringing about good governance and people’s rule. This is because, for them, is not about people’s will but political will. It is about greed and power. This is why parties, ideology and principles matter very little. It is all about letting these elections pass without their intentions getting exposed.
They think they are racehorses that can take several thousand people for a ride at the same time and destroy Goa.
However, Goans are wiser and they have seen such horses and it may not be easy to take all Goans for an easy ride.
But Goa’s destruction has been planned across parties. Like the ‘gang plan’ of bringing the Bhumiputra Bill
The Bhumiputra Bill was a part of a gang plan where MLAs across parties planned to benefit from them by making migrants believed that they would become owners of the land. But even they have come to know that this bill cannot become an Act and go unchallenged because of a lot of loopholes. And since the Act can’t stand the test of law, it has already backfired on those who plotted to introduce this bill.
It is now left to Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to do all the firefighting in this regard, which he has started now.
It is clear that whether some go to new political parking lots to take shelter or hide or introduce bills like the Bhumiputra bill aimed to deny Goans as well fool the migrants. They are least interested in the good of Goa. And people will decide their future.
