PANJIM: The Anjuna Police continue to raise the bar for its blatant inefficiency and alleged complicity in being hand-in-glove with many criminals.
It’s been four days, but the Goa Police appear to have developed cold feet in arresting the other accused allegedly involved in the Anjuna sex trafficking case. In what is cruelly laughable it has taken the Anjuna Police four days to write to the FRRO and ask them to contact the respective embassies to “find out the credentials of the accused”. These are the same “accused”, who were moving around freely without passports and visas purportedly running a sex racket for years under the nose of the same police. Now they need to write to different embassies to find out which countries they belong to.
Shockingly even the transfer of the Head Constable to the Goa Reserve Police was apparently not as a result of this case. When questioned about the alleged involvement of the head constable in the International sex racket which was busted by Anjuna Police last Saturday, Mapusa SDPO Jivba Dalvi said, “The transfer of the head constable was already due. It is just a coincidence and has no connection with the racket.”
However, it is reportedly learnt that the constable was transferred to Agasaim and later to Colvale Police Station, but he managed to hold on to his posting at Anjuna Police Station for the last 10 years.
The main accused Maria Dorcas alias Israelite, who claims to be a Kenyan, Wilkista Achista and one Olokpa, a Nigerian, procured the five young victims from Kenya and forced them into sex trade and lived on their earnings. However, what is shocking is that it has come to light that Dorcas and Olokpa, who have been staying comfortably in Goa, neither possess a passport nor a visa. The third accused is on the run.
Do the police even know that protecting the accused or going slow in cases of sex rackets is itself a racket?
Moreover, the owners of the guesthouses in Anjuna and Siolim have only been served notices for the sealing of their premises but have not been booked for abetting the criminal conspiracy for letting out their premises to be used for the purpose of prostitution. *Section 2 (a) under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act defines a brothel and includes any place used for sexual exploitation. Using premises for the purpose of brothel or sexual exploitation is punishable under Section 3 of the Act.
The police stirred only after O Heraldo exposed that Dorcas had been illegally staying in Goa for the past five years.
The SDM, Mapusa, has issued show cause notices to Sebastian Lazarus Albuquerque, a resident of House No. 5115, Vagator Beach Road, Anjuna, the owner of Maior Roma Resort by Jolly Jolly Lester at Vagator and Michael Almeida, resident of House No. 1188, Bamon Vaddo, Siolim, owner of Cosmos and Greenspace asking them as to why their premises should not be sealed for letting out the same for the purpose of prostitution and have been given eight days to reply.
