Do not insists on parent’s consent for offline classes: Directorate of Education

PANJIM: Following resentment by parents, the Directorate of Education (DoE) has asked all the schools and educational institutes, not to insist upon parent’s consent for students to attend the offline classes.

Schools began in offline mode across the state from February 21 after a break due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Though, the modified SOP issued by the Union Education Ministry, does not insist upon mandatory parents consent, in Goa, several school managements were asking parents to fill consent forms which made it clear that students were attending class at their own risk.

Taking cognisance of the same, the DoE Director Bhushan Savaikar in a circular issued to heads of all government, government aided, unaided pre-primary, primary, secondary and higher secondary schools, has requested not to insist parents consent for students to attend physical classes.

As per SOP, the decision on whether or not parental consent is required for allowing students to study from home or school is to be taken by the respective State government. However, the Goa government, which had made parental consent mandatory in November, last year, had relaxed the norm while reopening schools now.
