PORVORIM: It was a routine Sunday night that ended in tragedy the next morning, with Porvorim Police now trying to piece together a possible motive for Dr Vaishali Kambli to end her life as well as the lives of two minor daughters in the Mandovi River.
When police questioned Dr Uttam Kambli to get a better picture regarding the sequence of events leading to the tragedy, Dr Kambli stated that his wife, Dr Vaishali, had gone to sleep as usual in her bedroom along with two daughters, Manasvi and Tanishka, on Sunday night.
When he got up on Monday at about 5 am, he found the main door of their flat open and was shocked to find his wife and their two daughters missing from the house.
Dr Kambli then hurried out of their flat, which is on the second floor, and proceeded to the ground floor, where he noticed that his wife’s scooter was also missing from the parking lot.
He then told police that he got into his car and proceeded towards the KTC bus stand in Panjim, in search of his wife and two daughters. Along the way, he noticed a crowd on the bridge and was horrified to find the scooter of his wife abandoned at the bridge. He then alerted his in-laws of the incident
Meanwhile, relatives, friends and neighbours have been
left stunned over the tragic deaths of Dr Vaishali and her two children.
When reporters went to Arrarim, the mood was sombre and people were inconsolable over the loss of three lives. While neighbours recalled having cordial relations with the Kambli family, there were unconfirmed reports that Dr Vaishali’s brother had committed suicide recently.
