PANJIM: The Directorate of Health Services, (DHS), Campal-Panjim celebrated Doctor’s Day on Friday, to commemorate the birth anniversary of the illustrious physician, freedom fighter and statesman Late Dr B C Roy.
Secretary (Health) Y V V J Rajasekhar, IAS was the chief guest for the function held on the premises of the DHS. Other dignitaries present included Director of Health Services Dr Geeta Kakodkar, former Director Dr Jose O A D’Sa, Health Officer, CHC Sanquelim Dr Uttam Dessai and Senior Pathologist, North Goa District Hospital, Dr Varsha Munj.
Rajasekhar in his address appreciated the role of doctors in the State and the particular stepping up of doctors in public health services during pandemic times.
He said their services were exemplary. He thanked the doctors, nurses and para-medical staff who worked like silent revolutionaries during the COVID-19 pandemic. He further underscored the importance of stress management among doctors and assured support for such training in future as well.
Earlier, Director of Health Services Dr Geeta Kakodkar welcomed the gathering. In her address, she highlighted the role played by the doctors in public health services and appreciated the responsibilities they shouldered relentlessly during the pandemic times. She stated ‘Medicine cures the diseases but doctors cure the patient”.
Dr Kakodkar expressed gratitude to all the staff for working in tandem with the doctors to implement government programmes and initiatives successfully in the State.
The doctors felicitated during the function included Dr Jose D’Sa for his exemplary work during COVID-19 times, Dr Varsha Munj for her work in the up-gradation of NGDH Laboratory including molecular Laboratory, Dr Datta H Bhat (Former Deputy Director AYUSH) for his efforts to develop AYUSH section and his tireless work in providing AYUSH medicine and services during COVID-19 times, Dr Uttam Dessai for obtaining NQAS certification for CHC Sanquelim and Dr Utkarsh Betodkar for his excellent work during COVID-19 times.
