Doctors urged to be compassionate

Even as technical skill is important, compassionate attitude is another vital aspect needed in the medical field, eminent neurosurgeon Dr S N Bhagwati said.
The suggestion came during a brainstorming session organized by Goa Peoples’ Forum, Indian Medical Association and Geno Pharmaceuticals at Goa State Museum Auditorium on Sunday.
The lecture attended by medical students and activists including Satish Sonak, Subodh Kerkar and others also discussed on treatment and attention paid to a patient at Government and private hospitals. Dr Bhagwati, expressed apprehensions that Government and municipal hospitals are often overloaded with work and therefore they are unable to concentrate and fail to give enough time to listen to their patients.
The renowned neurosurgeon, who has held several higher positions at various recognised hospitals said that ‘brain needs to be cultivated and cultured being a complex organ.’ The seminar also suggested that yoga, specifically ‘pranayam’ is important for breathing helps circulate oxygen to brain and other parts of the body, as well.
