PANJIM: Days after Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced to make it mandatory for all those who come in regular contact with children to be vaccinated, the Directorate of Education (DoE) has asked teaching and non-teaching staff to get immunised urgently, failing which will have to produce RT-PCR negative report to join duty in the schools.

In a circular issued on Tuesday, Director of Education Dilip Bhagat has also asked the school staff to ensure that their family members are vaccinated without any delay as a precaution to prevent any transmission through them.

“In the interest of health of the students, all the teaching and non-teaching staff of the schools should get vaccinated urgently without any further delay,” Bhagat said. “The staff members, who do not get vaccinated for any reason by then, they must submit RT-PCR report possibly, weekly, once to attend their duties in the school,” he added.

The staff members of the educational institutions, who fail to produce the RT-PCR report, are directed to produce recommendation of medical experts, if they have exemption for such report for any reason.

The direction comes days after the government accepted the various suggestions made by the Expert Committee, including mandatory vaccination of all those who come in direct contact with children below age of 18 years, such as staff of educational institutions.

The measure is part of State’s preparedness to tackle the third wave of COVID-19, which is expected to hit the country in August-September, as per the experts. The academic year has already commenced via an online mode since June 21.
