PANJIM: The All Goa Secondary School Teachers Association (AGSSTA) has urged the Directorate of Education (DoE) not to deploy teachers for election duties and to regularise the services of temporary teachers.

In a memorandum submitted to the DoE, the AGSSTA president Dattatray Naik has stated that as per the National Education Policy, 2020, teachers cannot be deputed for election duty or other similar non-education duties. He pointed out that in the recent years, the maximum number of staff deputed for election duty were teachers.

Naik said that the government is appointing teachers on temporary basis when in various educational institutions, number of posts of teachers are lying vacant for more than two years. These temporary teachers are asked to do fill-time work but are paid 80 per cent salary. He demanded that the government should regularise the services of temporary teachers by filling the vacant posts and should also withdraw the policy of 80 per cent for temporary teachers.

Naik has also requested the DoE to consider the online training undergone by teachers as in-service training.

They also requested the DoE to regularise the services of a laboratory assistant who has been working on contract basis for the last 7 years.
