CANACONA: A dog died on Wednesday morning after it consumed an eatable stuffed with a crude bomb which was allegedly used to kill a wild boar.
The Canacona Police have launched a probe following a complaint from Alex Carpenter, a noted environmentalist.
The incident happened when Alex, wildlife enthusiasts and three others were on their way to visit their friend’s farm near Karmalghat on Wednesday.
Canacona Police have registered an offence under Sections 429 of IPC.
Alex stated that two adults and two children were on their way, when his dog, accompanying them, consumed some eatable with an explosive in it, meant to kill a wild boar or some wild animal possibly for meat. Within a fraction of a second the bomb exploded resulting in female dog’s instant death.
Alex reported the incident to the Pisonem Range Forest Officer and Canacona Police Station.
Pisonem Range Forest Officer Manjunath Gaonkar informed that the incident occurred in a private property, which is close to the government forest border.
“We have conducted the panchanama and a veterinary doctor attached to Canacona Animal Husbandry Department has conducted the post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death,” Gaonkar informed.
“The eatable stuffed with the explosive was on the footpath and if any one of us had to stamp on it accidentally, it would have killed us,” Alex said.
“This is the harvesting time and we hear sound of explosions every night from each direction,” he said.
Sources informed that since the death of the dog has reportedly occurred due to an explosive, the Canacona Police immediately visited the site soon after receiving information about the incident.
