DoHE scheme for students pursuing higher education

Meritorious and deserving students who lack financial support to take up higher studies will now be able to take the benefit of a scheme by the Directorate of Higher Education for financial assistance for higher education/technical education in professional institutes of repute in the country.
According to the DoHE, those students whose family income exceeds Rs 10 lakh per annum will not be applicable for the assistance. For subsequent continuation of the scheme (renewal) the family income should not exceed Rs 4.50 lakh per annum.
Students who have obtained admission in any of the IITs, IIMs and BITs will be entitled for the scheme which is enforced from the academic year 2010-2011. Those students already enrolled in the IInd, IIIrd and IVth year in these institutions are also entitled for assistance from the date of applicability of the scheme on the set terms and conditions.
A student (who has passed X and XII) seeking financial assistance under the scheme should be been born in Goa and domiciled for at least 15 years. On the date of filing the application for the assistance the student’s age should not exceed 22 years.
SC/ST students seeking admissions for higher studies will be entitled to receive 50 per cent assistance more than that of the general candidates. However, these students will not be eligible for one-time grant for purchase of a laptop (maximum Rs 50,000 or actual- whichever is less).
The financial assistance will entitle the student for refund of fees paid to the institution subject to a maximum of Rs 1 lakh or actual, whichever is less. They will get a one-time grant for purchase of a laptop subject to a maximum Rs 50,000 or actual, whichever is less. An amount of Rs 15,000 per annum will be made available to them for purchasing books, stationery, equipment, etc. Besides, they will get maintenance allowance (hotel fees and mess charges) of Rs 2,000 per month or actual, whichever is less.
Applications under the scheme will be called on or before June 20 every year and the selection procedure completed before June 30.
The scheme will be continued in subsequent years only if a student passes with not less than 60 per cent marks or equivalent grade. Any student who is already receiving financial assistance under this scheme will not be entitled for another scholarship of the State Government.
