PERNEM: The body of an unknown person, suspected to be a domestic tourist, was found dumped in the bushes at Pernem, on Tuesday.
Pernem police said that the Police Control Room (PCR) at Panjim received a call from a local informing that they found something suspicious at roadside at around 100 metres from the new municipal crematorium.
This information was relayed to Pernem police who rushed to the spot and found a body lying in bushes with a cloth stuffed in the mouth. Two bed-sheets with blood stains, two nylon ropes and one scissors were also found at the crime spot. Police have also spotted marks of four-wheeler tyres at the spot.
Police said that the body is of a well built Indian male aged 40-45 years. Later, North Goa SP Chandan Chaudhary, DySP Gajanan Prabhudesai, Mapusa PI Kiran Nayak and Anjuna PI Navlesh Desai also reached at the site and inspected the scene.
Police suspect that the victim was murdered, wrapped in bed-sheets and dumped at the isolated area.
“The post mortem report will confirm the cause of death. Blood stains are found on the body; however, there are no stabbings marks found on the body,” Pernem PI Harish Madkaikar said.
A dog squad and forensic team were also called to collect evidence. The body has been sent for post mortem at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim. PI Harish Madkaikar is investigating the case.
