Dona Paula sea link debate on HCN
A one-hour panel discussion on ‘Whether we need the Dona Paula Sea link’ hosted by Juino De Souza in Straight-Talk will be telecast on Sunday, April 18, at 11 am and again the same night at 9 pm on HCN.
The panelist comprise: BJP MLA, Francis D’Souza, former Tourism Minister, Mathany Saldanha, Chartered Accountant, Santosh Kenkre and IIT – Mumbai Engineer, Winston D’Souza.
The issues amongst others are: Why do we need the sea link if it cannot benefit the people of Salcete and North Goa and will there be sufficient density of traffic to justify the cost of more than Rs 3000 crore for constructing the bridge? Who has conceived the idea of sea link? Has this demand come from the people of Goa and the MLAs? Can we compare the Dona Paula sea link project to the Bandra-Worli sea link?
Is it rational to pay an enormous Rs 7 crore of precious public money to a German firm Louis Berger to do a simple feasibility study of the sea link project? Why is the government not carrying out such studies in other areas where there is dire need of bridges and flyovers to reduce traffic congestion? Why has the government not taken the people and MLAs into confidence? What is the alternate solution in case the Sea Link project is dropped? How can we plan essential infrastructure for next say 50 years for Goa and do we need the six-lane national highway for Goa?
