True to expectations, Western Railway emerged champions in the women’s section quelling the challenge of SAI’s KSEB in three straight sets in 2nd all-India volleyball championship organised by Wilred Leisure Sports Club at St Alex church court, Curtorim, on Saturday. They won Rs 25,000.
The railway girls put up a spirited display with their smashes earning them vital points. KSEB put up a dogged fight in the first set which was a closely fought encounter which the Railway team won 25-23. The second and third sets were almost one-sided affairs with Railways winning 25-15, 25-19.
Following prizes were awarded: Best smasher Dipti (W Railways). Best libero Priya (WR). Best lifter Printy (WR). All rounder Prajalisha (KSEB).
Fr Livio de Mello was the chief guest and gave away the prizes. Veena Lourenco, ZP member was the guest of honour. Reginaldo Lourenco, MLA presided.
Meanwhile, the men’s final will be played on Sunday at 8 p.m. ICF will meet KSEB, who beat MEG 25-22, 25-21, 25-14.
