Dongrim families report losses as water enters homes

MARGAO:  The heavy downpour on Friday left families in Navelim’s Dongrim locality devastated, as water entered ten houses in the area, damaging property, vehicles and household appliances.

The water levels were so high that motorbikes parked in front of the houses were almost submerged. Locals complained that their bikes and cars, including a newly-purchased four-wheeler, were completely damaged after this residential area got flooded.

The situation was worse inside the houses, where water levels ranged from knee-deep to waist-deep, throwing residents into a panic.

People had piled their household appliances on top of their beds, but in some houses, water levels reached the beds as well.

Locals blamed the sudden water logging on a construction site in the area, where steel patras were stacked, and said this had blocked the natural flow of water.
