PANJIM: The State unit of National Students Union of India (NSUI) accompanied by Bachelor of Vocation programme (BVoc) students, on Tuesday met the Goa University Registrar Prof V S Nadkarni and requested him not to bar them from progressing to the next academic year due to the absence of a structured BVoc course Ordinance.

The students feared that it would result in the loss of an entire academic year for them and the Registrar assured them that necessary amendments to the Ordinance would be made promptly to address this issue and provide relief to the students, informed NSUI Goa unit president Naushad Chowdhuri.

After meeting the Registrar, Chowdhuri said that due to failure in skilled course, the programme director and the department was not promoting students. Stating that as per the Ordinance, a student cannot be debarred from progressing to the next academic year, he said, “We met Goa University Registrar and discussed the issue in detail.  Registrar has assured us that he will discuss the matter in detail with the programme director and the dean of the school and ensure that the student won’t lose his/her academic year.”

The Registrar has also assured the students that the Statute will also be revised and made pro-student so that they do not lose their precious year, according to Chowdhuri.

BVoc degree course is conducted only in Goa University, Government College of Khandola and Shree Damodar College, Margao.
