Doorstep collection of garbage in Davorlim from the New Year

Wet waste will be collected daily while dry waste will be collected every two days

MARGAO: The Davorlim-Dicarpale panchayat has announced that they will start the door-to-door garbage collection process from January 1, 2024.

This decision was taken at a meeting held by the panchayat body along with the Village Development Committee (VDC) and garbage management committee members.

Sarpanch Santosh Naik also informed media persons that they had visited the Saligao Waste Treatment Plant and had also been consulting with the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC).

As the panchayat presently does not have its own treatment facility, on a temporary basis, waste collected from the village will be sent to the Saligao plant for disposal.

Naik added that they had also visited a waste treatment plant in Vengurla, Maharashtra, which they plan to install in their village once the issues regarding the land and other formalities are completed.

The Sarpanch added that the panchayat will also hold an awareness programme for the villagers and that another meeting will be convened to address any problems that may arise during the initial days.

He added that wet waste will be collected daily while dry waste will be collected every two days.

The panchayat will also soon take a decision on how to tackle chicken waste being dumped in the village.
