DoP, DMA urged to constitute child committees

MARGAO: The Goa Women’s Forum (GWF) called upon the Directorate of Panchayats (DoP) and Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) to ensure that every Village Panchayat and Municipal Council in both the districts of Goa constitute Child Committees.

On the occasion of the International Day of the Girl Child, October 11, in a letter to the Director Panchayats Siddhi Halarnkar and Director Municipal Administration Gurudas Pilarnekar, GWF  pointed out that every month, the media is reporting cases of molestation, child abuse, kidnapping and even rape of the girl child in Goa.

“GWF stated that while it is important that the civil society gets involved in protesting against such crimes, it is also important to build the capacities of all stakeholders to prevent such crimes on the girl child,” informed Lorna Fernandes, Convenor GWF.

GWF it its letter has made few recommendations to the DoP and DMA where they appoint a Nodal Officer to ensure that every Panchayat and Municipal Council in both the Districts of Goa have constituted the Child Committee (CC) and this officer should be also available for mobile and email communication with Children Organisations, NGO’s and allied Departments like the DWCD.
