PANJIM: Former Minister Alina Saldanha has accused Cortalim MLA Anton Vas of misguiding people about the Railway’s double tracking project in some parts of Cortalim constituency.
Reacting to the MLA’s claim that he has found a solution to the ongoing double tracking issue by getting the railway authorities to shift the track towards the Eastern side, Saldanha asked, “If this is true, Vas has to show the locals the area available on the Eastern side of the villages of Arossim, Cansaulim, Velsao etc and explain the possibility of this move.”
Alina pointed out that the Major District Road (MDR) lies on the eastern side and has houses on both sides.
The health department/hospital constructed during her tenure is also on the Eastern side and that there are WHO guidelines that restrict noise around a hospital area. “Owing to the MDR, it is mandatory to keep a setback of 12.5 metres on either side. So where is the land to lay the second track?” she questioned.
