MARGAO: Even as parents of the couple that committed suicide at Colva on October 18, 2017 are expected to arrive tomorrow to take the bodies with them, the same may not be possible as the Sub Divisional Magistrate is yet to give his say on the matter.
The investigating officer Police Inspector Philomeno Costa has reportedly sent a report to the SDM that the couple is believed to be married and since the death has occurred within five years of the marriage, he has asked the SDM to investigate the matter.
It may be recalled that 25 years old Beran Singh and 18 years old Harvinder Kaur were found dead hanging by a dupatta from a bent coconut tree. Beran Singh reportedly used to work at a hotel owned by Harvinder’s father where they fell in love and fled.
Since the family reportedly objected to their relationship and subsequent marriage, the couple fled to Rajasthan first and then came down to Goa. Reportedly frustrated with not being able to find jobs, they took the extreme step.
The mehendi on Harvinder’s hand along with an array of bangles associated with marriage made the police believe that the two were married even though they did not find any document testifying that they were married in the room they were occupying in Colva.
The parents will have to first clear the doubts that the two were married before they can be given charge of the bodies.
