PANJIM: The State government on Friday submitted the detailed project report (DPR) and alignment for the proposed six-lane Zuari Bridge, to the Union Ministry for Road, Transport and Highways. The proposed alignment finalized by the State for the bridge is 2 kms long.
PWD Minister Ramakrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar submitted the report to the office of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for finalization. Gadkari is currently on holiday. The copy of the DPR was also submitted to Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.
PWD Chief Engineer Dattaprasad Borkar confirmed to Herald that DPR and alignment has been submitted to the Union government.

The government wants to make, the entirely centrally funded Zuari Bridge, a signature bridge, with unique design features that would make it a tourist attraction. The present bridge, a lifeline connecting North with South, is in bad condition and cannot sustain heavy traffic. Government has decided to float a global tender for the project by April this year.
