MARGAO: South Goa District Hospital doctor  Deepa Corriea Afonso on Wednesday clarifies that there was no drop in oxygen pressure or decrease in the supply to any of the wards reacting to some media report claiming it reasoing leakage.

“In response to a mischievous and malicious article titled situation worse in SGDH by anonymous government doctor, it is appropriate to issue the following clarification to place the facts on record for a true picture,” said Dr Deepa in a press release issued jointly by Dr Deepa and Nodal Officer Dr Rajesh.

She said, “We do not have our own oxygen concentrator plant as off the date. The leak that occurred on May 11 night was from liquid oxygen storage tank and was attended by technicians under the supervision of senior officers.”

She further revealed that, “A decision was taken by these experts and it was decided, since the tank was full and leak was minimal, the experts deemed it safe to wait till morning to seal the leak. Oxygen trolleys were on standby and at no time there was any risk of oxygen supply to the wards. Technical staff was to be flown in from Delhi by a 5.30 a.m. flight to attend to the leak”, said Dr Deepa.

She also said, “At no time was there any drop in oxygen pressure or decrease in the supply of oxygen to any of the wards. The leak was attended to and the tank completely repaired”.

Dr Deepa further claimed that there have been no deaths at SGDH as a consequence of the leak of oxygen.

“The allegation of lack of lubricants and anticonvulsant drugs in the hospital is not true as adequate supply is there in the SGDH pharmacy. An adequate police force is posted at SGDH to counter any assault on health care workers”, said Dr Deepa and Dr Rajesh.
