MARGAO: The former Hospicio Medical Superintendent and outgoing Covid District Coordinator Dr Ira Almeida in her statement after vacating charge, said that she and her team are happy that the ESI Covid Hospital for Goa, is now under the charge of GMC.
On Aug 4, Dr Ira had a detailed handover meeting at 4:30PM, with Dr Vishwajit Phaldessai, Dr Uday Kakodkar and the GMC specialty teams, while acknowledging the work of the teams that have been working very hard at the same site over the past several months.
Dr Ira said, “I made a verbal briefing of the handover instructions and then handed over written instructions to the same effect. Dr Vishwajit accepted and signed the handover instructions.
Sources said that Dr Uday declined to sign as he said he had not received any official order.
Dr Ira added that her team has been managing the effort for the past 4 months. “Bu the scale now certainly calls for a much larger team and effort and there can be no better than that from the state’s apex hospital,” she added.
“This will definitely be a smooth transition since the medical care at the ESI Covid Hospital has always been provided by GMC, from the beginning, complemented by the ESI staff. Our DHS (Directorate of Health Services) team has handled administration, HR and procurement while providing support wherever needed – nurses, technician etc,” said Dr Ira.
“I wish the new team well. Dr Vishwajit will no doubt provide the continuity between the old and new teams since he has been with the ESI COVID effort since Day 1. Whenever the new officers take charge of their new roles, I would be fully accessible and available to them for any clarifications. Having nurtured this baby with great care and hard work, I remain committed to seeing it succeed in the service of our community in these demanding times under the new management” she concluded.
