Dr Mesquita’s mortal remains cremated

Eucharistic celebration held at Chicalim church; Son and daughters light the pyre

VASCO: Dr Wilfred Mesquita’s mortal remains were cremated in Murgao Hindu Samaj crematorium at Khariwado, Vasco after the Eucharistic celebration at St Francis Xavier Church, Chicalim, on Wednesday. Dr Mesquita’s son Leon and daughters lit the pyre.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said, “Dr Mesquita was a great leader and I got an opportunity to work with him. He was knowledgeable person”.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijai Sardesai said, “Goa has lost a wise and knowledgeable man. Dr Mesquita was my good friend and had better understanding of politics. May his soul rest in peace”.
Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida said, “We have lost a gem. He got several projects such as Tilak Maidan, Chicalim ground etc. completed during his tenure. He was a very good leader and we feel sad that we have lost him.”
The others prominent politicians present were Urban Development Minister Milind Naik, MLAs – Michael Lobo, Churchill Alemao, Carlos Almeida and Joshua D’Sousa, NCP leader Jose Philip D’Sousa, Damu Naik, former ministers Dilip Parulekar, Ramakant Khalap and Deepak Dhavalikar.
Earlier, after the Mass in the SFX church, Chicalim, at around 11 am, the mortal remains of Dr Mesquita were brought to the Murgao Hindu Samaj crematorium.
