Dr Salkar raises health concerns about the process of installing corona sanitisation tunnels

Bicholim: The former president of the Goa chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and cancer specialist, Dr Shekhar Salkar has raised concerns in the manner in which, the municipalities and other authorities are installing the sanitisation tunnels for disinfecting people.

Speaking to Herald, Dr Salkar alleged that the tunnels, which are being installed, do not have any Food and Drug Administration (FDA) license. He further alleged that it is not safe for the people.

“First of all the tunnels, which are coming up in the State do not have any licence. The FDA has to first approve it. At least there should be some approval from ICMR or Directorate of Health services. There are no such approvals from any of the three bodies,” alleged Dr Salkar.

Continuing with his allegations, he feared that such things could be risky especially for those who have sensitive skin. “What if there is some allergy, what if the concentration goes into someone’s eyes? Who is responsible?” Dr Salkar questioned.

He also claimed that some human error could lead to adverse health issues including itching, irritation and breathing difficulty. “The concentration of hydrogen peroxide or bleach which is used should be some point 5%, but what if the dose increases? The person who would be making this solution would be some worker who might get wrong,” claimed Dr Salkar.
