NEW DELHI: Maverick BJP MP Subramanian Swamy has retweeted the Congress demand for removal of finance minister Arun Jaitley on account of the law firm of his daughter Sonali and son-in-law Jayesh Bakshi taking Rs 24 lakh from jeweller Mehul Choksi as retainer of his firm Gotanjali Gems Ltd.
He retweeed the ANI news agency’s tweet on the press conference by Rajasthan PCC chief Sachin Pilot and others on Monday: “Gitanjali Gems was engaged to retain Arun Jaitley Ji’s daughter Sonali Jaitley&son-in-law Jayesh Bakshi’s legal firm for a sum of Rs 24 lakh.Mehul Choksi fled the country on Jan 4,’18. On Feb 20,Sonali&Jayesh returned those 24 lakhs saying we didn’t do any work for them.”
Dr Swamy also retweeted that the Congress demand for Jaitley’s resignation may be to neutralise the “damaad angle” as the BJP has been alleging a Robert Vadra angle to the Rafale deal.
He is also taking interest in the infight among top two in the CBI as he endorsed national security scholar Monu Nalapat’s demand that the tenure of CBI chief Alok Verma and Enforcement Director be extended to complete ongoing corruption cases.
In another tweet, stopping short of calling CBI special director Rakesh Asthana corrupt, he said: “The corrupt want to forestall tenure extension to CBI and ED chiefs.”
“If honest officers like Verma and Rajeshwar (joint director of Enforcement) have to go through such inquisition by the corrupt and compromised, then forget fighting corruption,” he tweeted.
In another tweet, he questions promotion of Asthana last year despite protests by the CBI chief, again without naming him as such. He wrote: “Corrupt officers in our ministries and agencies have been promoted by some influential persons to make the cartel operations to protect crooked netas across parties.”
