PANJIM: The Disability Rights Association of Goa (DRAG) president Avelino De Sa on Wednesday demanded Secretary level inquiry into the incident of intellectual disabled student falling from the second floor at the Aadhar Card Centre, Porvorim.
Speaking to media persons, De Sa also demanded that Rs 50 lakh compensation be given to the injured person with disability and the compensation amount be recovered from the government officials responsible for negligence.
Stating that the injured student had suffered spinal cord injury, De Sa demanded that the government should establish Spinal Cord Rehabilitation Centre in the State. “Many accidents are taking place and people are getting disabled. So it is important to have a Spinal Cord Rehabilitation in Goa,” he said.
De Sa alleged that the government is violating various labour laws. “Recently, Goa Human Resource Development Corporation (GHRDC) issued an advertisement for 350 posts on empanelment basis. Now these posts are for MTS, drivers and office assistants. Empanelment is only for professionals and not for unskilled workers.”
According to De Sa, in empanelment, there is a contract and no reservation for Persons with Disability (PwD), SC and ST or OBC. Last year also the GHRDC had come out with 750 posts on empanelment basis, he said adding that the government is denying employment on a permanent basis to Persons with disabilities, for which the DRAG has taken strong objection,” he stated.
The DRAG president also demanded that the government should come out with the detailed expenditure of the three-day Purple Fest held in January this year since the Social Welfare Minister had claimed that Rs seven crore was spent on it.
“Persons with Disabilities and special children are yet to receive their participation certificates from the Purple Fest organisers,” he said.
