PANJIM: Disability Rights Association of Goa (DRAG) on Thursday said it was shocked to note that Directorate of Education has again not recognised the efforts of special educators with a State Award on Teacher’s Day.
“We are also surprised that the Directorate did not have the courtesy to invite the special educators for the State-level function on Teacher’s Day. We wonder what could be the reason for the Directorate ignoring the efforts of the special educators on the occasion of Teachers Day. Are the special educators not considered as teachers by the Directorate or are the special educators not considered worthy of State recognition by the Directorate?” DRAG president Avelino D’Sa asked.
He said, “The Directorate has ignored the efforts of the special educators for a long time and it is high time the Directorate recognises their hard work in educating the special children of Goa by treating them on par with the regular teachers by felicitating them with a State award and inviting them for the state level function on Teachers Day.”
DRAG demanded that Directorate of Education treat special educators on par with regular teachers, institute State awards for special educators in special schools and regular school category.
