MARGAO: Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Sharmad Raiturkar while thanking Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar expressed hope that within a year the sewage problem that has been troubling residents of Comba will be resolved.
Briefing media persons he said the government had already started replacing the North Main sewerage line that runs from Fatorda to Sirvodem and it was expected that once the new line was installed the problems in Comba would be solved.
Comba residents have literally been living with sewage as it enters their houses through the toilet chambers at home, in runs through their drains and even nullahs and this has been going on for the last three years, he said.
“People of Comba have been living in danger of getting any kinds of diseases due to the sewage and the children have not even been able to move out of the house particularly near the Vithal Mandir area,” he said.
However, after Manohar Parrikar inspected the area on January 25th 2018 he initiated a thorough study and it was revealed that the entire sewerage network in Comba that was laid of stoneware pipeline has collapsed and that is why sewage is flowing out from everywhere and anywhere.
He thanked Manohar for following up on the matter even when he was in the United States of America undergoing treatment and revealed that an estimate of Rs. 27.5 crore to replace the seven km network in Comba has been prepared and is awaiting technical and administrative NOC.
While expressing confidence that the chief minister will give the necessary permissions once he returns to Goa, Sharmad said the work of replacing the pipeline will commence once the monsoons are over.
“It should be completed in one year as they are using new technology where the old stoneware pipeline is blasted and replaced with high density polytherene pipeline that will be laid using the trenchless technology,” he said.
