MARGAO: The meeting called to elect the new Sarpanch of Village panchayat Raia on December 23 may throw up a major twist, as sources report a split among the seven panch members who had moved a no-confidence notice against the previous Sarpanch Judas Quadros.
Sources confirmed that cracks have developed among the seven panch members in deciding their candidate for the vacant post of Sarpanch. However, till late Thursday night, both the sparring groups were on run to take control over the panch members.
On December 2, six panch members which include Mario D’Souza, Manuel Rodrigues, Xavier Fernandes, Queeny D’Cunha e D’Costa, Peter Quadros and Minguelina De Souza had moved a no-trust motion against Sarpanch Judas Quadros for not taking them into confidence regarding development works .
On December 12, the motion was passed by 7-4 votes, and Deputy Sarpanch Godfrey Oswald D’Souza had also voted to oust the Sarpanch. Peter Quadros and Godfrey Oswald D’Souza had also shifted sides to vote against Judas Quadros.
