CUNCOLIM: As the Chief Officer of the Cuncolim Municipal Council (CMC) was absent for the third consecutive time, the bi-monthly meeting was held in his absence; amidst objections from opposition councillors. As the meeting took place with no government officers present, opposition councilors said the meeting was illegal. However, VCP Videsh Dessai refuted the objections and said that it can be formally conducted. The councilors later agreed that the CO had neglected his duties given that he was continuously absent whereby crucial and time-bound matters are being held up. Not only was the meeting scheduled on Thursday postponed for a long period of time given that the CO had not informed earlier about his absence; the councilors pointed out that important files had not been cleared and works of standing committees delayed. While the councilors called for strict action against the CO, other issues were discussed. Chairperson Angela Paiginikar informed that the proposal of 187 toilets will be sanctioned shortly and that pre-monsoon works, which had been delayed with the code of conduct, will be taken on war footing. CMC has decided to host a ward wise football tournament and to renew the contract of the garbage treatment plant. VCP Dessai added that all development works will be completed as per schedule.
