BICHOLIM: The villagers from Pilgao Bicholim during the recent gram sabha demanded that Sagarmala jetty be constructed only after taking advice from the experts. The gram sabha which was chaired by Pilgao Sarpanch Pradeep Naik, resolved that a decision on the jetty to be taken at the next gram sabha by calling experts in the field. The sarpanch added that the experts who had been invited to participate in the jetty discussion could not come for this gram sabha.
The Sagarmala programme is an initiative by the government of India to enhance the performance of the country’s logistics sector. The programme envisages unlocking the potential of waterways and the coastline to minimize infrastructural investments required to meet these targets.
Villagers also raised the issue about the increasing number of non-Goans living in the village and resolved that the panchayat undertakes an exercise to collect relevant information from them.
Regarding the delay in the construction of the mobile tower, the villagers demanded that it be constructed on top of the panchayat building, which they felt is ideally suited given that there is a lack of available alternative options. They also pointed out that it can generate revenue to the panchayat. Earlier the sarpanch had informed them that the delay was due to technical reasons.
The issues were raised by Sandesh Naik and others. Gramsabha was also attended by panch members Lalna Gimonkar, Urmila Parab Gaonkar,Shankar Jalmi , while panch members Swapnil Fadte, Anil Naik and Sandeep Salelkar were absent. Panchayat secretary Sambhaji Desai assisted in conducting the gram sabha proceedings.
