A delegation from Benaulim has approached South Goa District Collector Egna Cleetus, urging immediate action to address the growing problem of illegal garbage dumping across the constituency.
The delegation, led by Benaulim Sarpanch Xavier Pereira and comprising social worker Warren Alemao and Colva panch member Pio Furtado, submitted a memorandum highlighting the rise in garbage dumping hotspots, particularly along the western bypass and beneath the highway overpass.

During the meeting, Pereira said that while the Benaulim panchayat has been consistently managing the collection of dry waste, the absence of adequate treatment facilities continues to hamper the disposal of wet waste. He stated that the panchayat is willing to collect wet waste up to three times a week, provided a suitable agency is identified to process and treat it.
The delegation also called on the district administration to take stringent action against those responsible for illegal dumping at recurring black spots and to implement a sustainable, long-term waste management solution for the Benaulim constituency.
According to the delegation, Collector Egna Cleetus acknowledged the recurring issue of garbage being dumped beneath the highway overpass and assured them that the matter would receive the administration’s attention.
