Dramapur-Sirlim locals protest project on NH-17

MARGAO: The residents of Dramapur-Sirlim, along with the local panchayat, held a protest on Saturday against the truck bays and bus bays planned for the area.

They claimed that the proposed projects, coming up along the NH-17, will cause major health and sanitation problems, compromise the safety of women, and would restrict the farmers’ access to their fields.
At the gram sabha on February 22, the panchayat had resolved to oppose the project, and it was sent in writing to the PWD. The PWD replied that the land being developed came under the National Highways Authority and it was to ease the traffic problems for the larger benefit of the public. It stated that the apprehensions raised at the gram sabha were not very serious and the advantages of the projects were much higher than the disadvantages.
The PWD has already completed filling the land. However, the locals will continue to oppose the project strongly.
