MARGAO: In response to the village’s ongoing garbage problem, the Dramapur gram sabha passed a resolution to deploy CCTV surveillance cameras at various locations to track waste dumping.
During the meeting chaired by Sarpanch Avita Pereira, attendees expressed worries about the increasing instances of waste being dumped along the roadsides. Suggestions were made to install CCTV cameras as a deterrent against such behaviour.
Sarpanch Avita emphasised the panchayat’s commitment to addressing the garbage issue as a top priority. However, she expressed dismay over the discovery of sanitary pads being disposed of in various places, questioning how waste from other villages was making its way into Dramapur despite local waste management efforts.
In light of this concern, the sarpanch mentioned her ongoing communication with neighbouring village leaders to collaboratively tackle the garbage problem.
Additionally, the gram sabha unanimously approved the budget estimates for the upcoming financial year 2024-25.
Discussions also touched upon the topic of large-scale housing projects, prompting the gram sabha to urge the sarpanch to involve the community by presenting such projects for discussion in future meetings.
It may be recalled that the decision by the neighbouring Chinchinim panchayat to install CCTV cameras to stop the practice of dumping garbage in open spaces has worked successfully with culprits caught and fined heavily.
