PANJIM: The draw of lots for allotment of beach shacks to applicants and selection of location for North Goa was held at the Paryatan Bhavan, Patto-Panjim on Tuesday.
The erection of temporary seasonal structures, beach shacks, deck beds and umbrellas, for the current tourist season will be allotted as per the Goa State Shack Policy 2023-26. The total number of shacks to be allotted across Goa are 364 shacks- 259 in North Goa and 105 in South Goa district. Also 10 per cent shacks are allocated to applicants with experience of one to four years and another 10 per cent to applicants without experience. Remaining shacks are allotted to experienced shack operators with experience of five years and above.

Since some shack operators had earlier moved the High Court against the pattern of allotment, much would depend on the Court verdict. The Court while admitting the petition filed by five shack operators challenging the shack distribution criteria based on years of experience has made it clear that the allotment of shacks will be subject to its final orders and to make this fact clear to all the allottees in their allotment orders so that they do not claim any equities.
