PANJIM: Officials of the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police are in the State to investigate a cheating case against a Goa-based real estate company and its three directors for allegedly duping a 39-year-old man to the tune of Rs 14.9 crore.
According to EOW sources, the real estate company and its three directors allegedly defrauded the complainant Premchand Gawas, a resident of Bicholim between January 2008 and February 2023, by accepting money from him on the pretext of buying a plot of land in Goa. But the complainant stated that he neither got possession of any land nor did he get his money back.

Since the said offence was committed from a Tardeo, Mumbai office, the EOW of Mumbai police registered the complaint and started investigations into the matter. It is learnt that a former Minister is also one of the director of the company, while, his wife and son are the main suspects in the matter.
All the three accused had filed anticipatory bail applications before the Mumbai Sessions Court on October 31. But it was dismissed by the Court following which the EOW team from Mumbai arrived in the State to arrest the accused.
